U.S. Immigration in 2025 and Beyond

Expert Webinar with KPMG Law with expert speakers Sabine Paul (Partner, KPMG Law) and Jasmin Wilhelm (Associate, KPMG Law)

On April 9, 2025, the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. in collaboration with AmCham Germany member KPMG Law hosted an Expert Webinar on U.S. Immigration in 2025 and Beyond: Considerations for Companies on Business Travel and Employing Foreigners in the U.S. Strong audience participation allowed the expert speakers to answer important immigration related questions and address current respective challenges. The expert speakers, Sabine Paul, Partner at KPMG Law, and Jasmin Wilhelm, Associate at KPMG Law, provided an overview not only on the current changes (including recent executive orders), but also on the potential changes to U.S. immigration law and practice since President Trump took office on January 20, 2025.

After providing a summary of the new executive orders impacting U.S. immigration policy, the two immigration attorneys shared some valuable observations and insights from their day-to-day work. These observations and insights covered the actual act of entering the U.S. 鈥 which seems to have become challenging in some instances, due to CBP's use of its significant amount of discretion 鈥 as well as dealing with enhanced Consular procedural vetting and USCIS review.

Additionally, Sabine Paul and Jasmin Wilhelm offered a detailed description of specific changes they have observed in the visa application procedures and the way the various authorities have responded. The speakers also provided hands-on and practical advice on how to manage challenges and provided suggestions based on best practice recommendations for dealing with them. Sabine Paul emphasized the strategic importance of the HR / Global Mobility function in this context and encouraged all participants to take the necessary proactive steps with respective immigration procedures. According to Sabine Paul, one key takeaway, which should not be underestimated, is timely and thorough business stakeholder management.

This webinar was the first in a three-webinar series on the topic of 鈥淯.S. Immigration in 2025 and Beyond鈥 planned for this year.
