April 3, 2025 - On the occasion of the current trade disputes between the U.S. and the EU, AmCham Germany's President Simone Menne released the following statement today:
The announced and to be expected trade-restrictive measures on both sides of the Atlantic will pose a burden for affected companies. We are concerned that additional tariffs will jeopardize growth and trust.
In order to prevent the trade conflict from growing, we call on political decisionmakers on both sides of the Atlantic to safeguard the benefits of free trade. To achieve this, it is essential that we remove all trade restrictions in the long run.
The trade volume between the U.S. and Germany, with its €253 billion in 2024 (source: Destatis), is a fundamental pillar of transatlantic relations.
Companies are concerned about the trade conflict between the U.S. and the EU, and current disputes should be resolved through negotiations in a quick and sustainable manner. Businesses need a reliable framework that fosters and encourages transatlantic trade and investment. Free trade and the removal of any form of trade barriers will lead to more prosperity, jobs, investment and security to the mutual benefit of both sides of the Atlantic.
