High Interest: U.S. Expansion Strategies Explored by Leading Experts – Webinar Draws Attention

Expert Webinar with Rödl & Partner on April 29 on "Strategic U.S. Expansion: Greenfield vs. M&A and Corresponding Tax Implications"

With great resonance, attendees seized the chance to meet three experts at once and gain intimate insights during the well-attended and insightful webinar titled "Strategic U.S. Expansion: Greenfield vs. M&A and Corresponding Tax Implications," hosted by The American Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. and Rödl & Partner on April 29, 2025. This event provided an opportunity to engage directly with U.S. experts and explore market entry strategies, focusing on whether Greenfield investment or M&A might be the best path for their business.

After a warm welcome from Heather Liermann of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany, she introduced the three USA experts, each bringing decades of professional experience to the stage.

Drawing on his vast field experience, Frank Breitenfeldt pointed out the common pitfalls and most successful strategies, drawing from the vast experience of his Transaction Services practice at Rödl & Partner in the U.S. With over 23 years of experience and having managed more than 750 transactions, Frank primarily supports German companies in their transactions in North America. His expertise as a German Wirtschaftsprüfer, Steuerberater, and U.S. CPA provided valuable insights into the intricacies of U.S. market entry and transaction services.

Following Frank Breitenfeld's detailed discussion on M&A, Dr. Ullrich Kämmerer delved into the complexities of site selection, highlighting a whole other field to consider and emphasizing that effective planning requires extensive experience. Dr. Ullrich Kämmerer, a German Wirtschaftsprüfer, Steuerberater, Rechtsanwalt, and Certified U.S. CPA, has been with Rödl & Partner since 2004. He specializes in market entry, site selection, and taxation for European investors in the U.S.

Showing the seamless working relationship across the Atlantic, Ullrich Kämmerer passed the baton to Dr. Susann Sturm, who deepened the discussion even more by diving into the tax structuring and international tax law aspects. Dr. Susann Sturm, a German Steuerberater, specializes in tax structuring and international tax law at Rödl & Partner in Munich. She advises global and domestic corporate groups on various tax matters, including M&A and other corporate transactions and investments. Her emphasis on transactions of German companies in relation to the USA offered attendees a comprehensive understanding of the tax implications involved.

Throughout the webinar, the speakers discussed the tax implications of Greenfield investment versus M&A, ensuring that participants gained a well-rounded understanding of the strategic options available for expanding into the U.S. market. The event was highly informative and offered practical advice for businesses considering U.S. expansion.

Overall, the webinar was a resounding success, providing attendees with valuable knowledge and the opportunity to engage with experts who have a deep understanding of both the U.S. and German markets. A huge thank you to the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. for hosting Rödl & Partner.
